In 1934 the Cherokee Tavern, a small bar and restaurant seating sixty patrons, opened its doors on Smith and Annapolis.  Bob and Dorothy Casper purchased that restaurant in 1970 and called it Casper’s Cherokee Sirloin Room.  Their dedication and personal involvement in offering the very best value for food and spirits, plus friendly service, continually added loyal customers, necessitating expansions in 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1997.

In 1987, the Casper brothers purchased the Cherokee Sirloin Room and have continued the traditions that were established during the formative and growing years when their parents owned and operated the popular West Side restaurant.

In 1991, the Casper’s brothers opened up another Cherokee in Eagan.  In 1997, they made a major expansion revamping the West Side Cherokee Sirloin Room.  In 2001, they did extensive remodeling and added an outside upper deck and lower level screen in patio at the Eagan restaurant.

In 2009, the Casper’s brothers went back to the restaurant’s roots, a bussling neighborhood gathering place, with the original name, the Cherokee Tavern.  The same great steaks and seafood, with additional choices on value.  Just recently, they were recognized for their five-step fries as been the best in Saint Paul.  The Cherokee Tavern in West St. Paul now offers entertainment, such as live bands, karoeke and an adult spelling bee… with many new beers and drink specials.  The Cherokee Tavern is now becoming a place where you can relax along with a cocktail and a great meal.
